ISDH Reports 985 Hospitalized With COVID Tuesday – More Than Double The Start Of July

Health officials reported 18 new positive COVID-19 cases in Monroe County Tuesday and two additional deaths. According to the Monroe County Health Department, they are the first deaths reported since July 6. Newly reported daily cases have been rising gradually since June 9.   

County officials have reported 12,691 cases and 180 deaths since the pandemic began. The county’s seven-day positivity rate today is 6.6 percent, up from 6.5 percent Monday, and 6.2 percent Friday.  

Forty-eight persons are hospitalized with the virus in Monroe County, up from 34 people Monday and 26 Friday. The last time hospitalizations were higher than Tuesday was February 7. Hospitalizations hit a low of 12 patients July 15. 

Monroe County re-entered the “yellow advisory” on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard last week, as it no longer falls below 10 weekly cases per 100,000 residents. The county reported 58 cases per 100,000 residents Tuesday. Monroe County had been in the “blue advisory” since May, indicating low community viral spread.   

Indiana health officials reported more than 1,600 new COVID cases Tuesday, up from 616 Monday, and 1,461 cases Friday. Tuesday marks the highest number of newly reported COVID-19 cases since April.

The Indiana Department of Health reported 13 new deaths Tuesday, bringing the total to13,596 deaths since the pandemic began. The state also reported more than 775,000 positive cases since the pandemic began.  

The state listed 985 Hoosiers hospitalized with the virus. The last time hospitalizations were higher than that was May 5. State hospitalizations have been on the rise since the start of July, and hospitalizations have more than doubled since then. 

The state also recorded a seven-day positivity rate of 7.8 percent Tuesday, up from 7.5 percent Monday, and 6.8 percent Friday. The state’s seven-day positivity rate has been increasing since a low of 1.9 percent June 22.
