Helmsburg Elementary in Brown County is sending all 270 of its students home after the school surpassed the 20 percent threshold of absences related to COVID-19 exposure.
The school reported 21.4 percent Tuesday when the decision was made to close. This number does not reflect positive COVID-19 cases.
“What we are seeing is large a number of symptomatic cases,” said Brown County Schools Superintendent Emily Tracy.
Tracy hopes to have Helmsburg back open Monday, after it has undergone a deep cleaning.
Brown County implemented a mask mandate for all its schools at the start of the school year.
