The Indiana men’s basketball team will open the Mike Woodson era with a home game on Nov. 9 against Eastern Michigan.
It’ll be the first of 19 home games for the Hoosiers and their first-year head coach, according to the 2021-22 schedule released by the school Wednesday.
“I’m excited for our team to get back on the floor,” Woodson said in a press release. “It was nice to get a couple of games in the Bahamas, but we have to get ourselves ready for some challenging non-conference games and the extremely tough Big Ten season.”
Indiana will play its first six games at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, including a Nov. 17 game against St. John’s in the Gavitt Games, which pits Big Ten teams against Big East teams.
The Hoosiers’ first road game will be at Syracuse on Nov. 30 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
That’s followed by a pair of Big Ten games — Dec. 4 at home against Nebraska and Dec. 8 at Wisconsin — before resuming the non-conference schedule with four more games.
The highlight is Dec. 18 against Notre Dame in the Crossroads Classic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. This is the last year for the classic, which also includes Butler and Purdue.
Indiana resumes its 20-game conference schedule at Penn State on Jan. 2. The Nittany Lions are one of eight schools the Hoosiers will play twice this season. That includes two games against rival Purdue — Jan. 20 in Bloomington and in the regular-season finale on March 5 in West Lafayette.
Indiana has single games against defending Big Ten regular season champion Michigan, Big Ten tournament champion Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State and Rutgers.
The Big Ten tournament is March 9-12 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
