Jackson County Reserve Deputy Dies From COVID-19 Complications

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is morning the death of one of its reserve deputies.

Lt. Adam Nicholson confirmed the death of reserve deputy Rick Hirtzel, who had been battling complications related to COVID-19.

“You could always see Deputy Hirtzel providing security at the Brownstown Speedway, Fort Vallonia Days and the Tampico Tractor Pulls. He also took many road calls and was a big help to our full-time deputies,” Sheriff Rick Meyer said in a Facebook post.

Hirtzel served 30 years with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
