Batchelor students awarded in C-SPAN documentary competition

Three students from Monroe County Community School Corporation’s Batchelor Middle School have won a prize in C-SPAN’s 2022 StudentCam competition.

Matthew Tierney, Nathan Lukes and Zach Sipes won honorable mention and a prize of $250 for a documentary called "Annexation" about Bloomington’s efforts to add more land and people to the city.

They are the latest Batchelor students from teacher Jeff Rudkin’s B-TV program to win in the annual competition, now in its 18 th year.

C-Span competition received more than 1,400 entries from 41 states, the District of Columbia, South Korea and Morocco. Only 10 percent of the students who entered won prizes.

Bob Zaltsberg was editor of The Herald-Times in Bloomington for 33 years before his retirement on Jan. 31, 2019. His career in print journalism spanned 43 years and included reporting, editing and leadership positions in news and sports. He teaches as an adjunct faculty member at the IU Media School. For 20 years, he has been co-host of WFIU's Noon Edition.
