IU graduation ceremonies are this weekend

It’s commencement weekend at Indiana University.

IU graduate students will go through commencement Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Graduation will continue Saturday morning with the commencement ceremony for Bloomington campus undergraduates at 10 o’clock at Memorial Stadium.

Nearly 21,000 degrees will be conferred at those two ceremonies and others at IU’s regional campuses.

Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek is the speaker for the undergraduate ceremony.  He has a degree in microbiology from IU. The university will award him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree Saturday.

This year’s graduates come from 140 countries, all 50 states and all of Indiana’s 92 counties, according to an IU news release.

Bob Zaltsberg was editor of The Herald-Times in Bloomington for 33 years before his retirement on Jan. 31, 2019. His career in print journalism spanned 43 years and included reporting, editing and leadership positions in news and sports. He teaches as an adjunct faculty member at the IU Media School. For 20 years, he has been co-host of WFIU's Noon Edition.
