Owen County Auditor Sheila Reeves retracted her resignation earlier this week, according to a May 24th Facebook post by Owen County Councilman Anton Karl Neff. This came a week after Reeves posted a resignation letter May 17th.
Reeves cited frustrations with the position and work environment in her letter. During her 16-month tenure, Reeves said she worked seven days a week and did not see any positive changes.
While Neff noted that he cannot specifically speak to why Reeves resigned, he said the job comes with challenges.
“Just by nature of the office, you're in a tough position and you're [not going to] make everybody happy,” Neff said. “You're going to have friction and some different personalities and things like that that comes with government.”
Reeves said in her resignation letter she was resigning from both her elected position as auditor and as vice-chair for the county Republican party, effective June 5th.
Neff stated Reeves’s position as Auditor is an important office in county government and he is glad she has decided to retract her resignation.
Reeves did not respond to multiple WTIU requests for comment.
