Bloomington man Michael Carson, Jr. is being held at the Monroe County Jail for a shooting that took place April 23 – the same night and within a mile of a shooting at the Kalao nightclub.
Police say they responded to a call that a man had been shot at 1:30 a.m. in a parking lot near the intersection of Sixth and Lincoln streets. Upon arrival, they found one victim in the passenger seat of a car with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The man was sent to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for emergency surgery and then to Indianapolis for continued care.
They found a handgun when they arrived at the scene.
Police say they obtained footage of two groups in an altercation in a restaurant parking lot where the victim was found. They identified the people involved and interviewed them; they pointed to Carson as the gunman who fired one shot.
Police say they called Carson on Thursday and asked him to come for an interview. He arrived at the Bloomington Police station at 7 p.m. and was questioned.
During questioning, police confirmed the shooting had no connection to the one at Kalao, which had been reported just 30 minutes earlier on April 23.
Carson is being held on charges of attempted murder, a felony, and carrying a handgun without a license, a Class A misdemeanor.
