Luis Posso pleaded guilty to murder during a Wednesday hearing at the Monroe County Justice Center.

The Posso case was heading to a jury trial but he changed his plea to guilty as a part of a plea deal with the state’s prosecution.

As a part of the plea deal, prosecutors will drop the neglect, criminal confinement and battery charges against Posso, in addition to a life without parole enhancement. He will also not be charged for the crime federally.

Posso still faces up to a 65-year sentence.

Posso and his wife were  arrested back in 2019 after bringing Posso's  battered and emaciated son to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

A police investigation found Posso and his wife had allegedly locked the boy in a bathroom, where they refused to feed him and shocked him with a dog collar.

Posso has a sentencing hearing scheduled for early August.
