Indiana University is ending its employee health screening program.
The program lasted for seven years.
Employees got a $100 incentive for participating in an annual wellness screening. The last day to participate was May 31st, according to an email by IU HR.
“Please know that this decision was not made lightly,” the email said.
The university is closing down the screenings. They said it encourages annual exams and preventative screenings for all their employees with their primary physician.
IU Spokesperson Chuck Carney said that low participation was a factor in ending the incentive. “During the last three years, the total participating across IU was between 18 to 20 percent of all employees and covered spouses on IU medical plans,” Carney said. “Only 12 percent utilized the on-campus screening which our staff established to provide that option.”
Carney declined to say how much the university expected to save by eliminating the health screening program.
IU said its medical plans cover 100 percent of preventative care expenses.
