Novo Nordisk announced in February that it’s boosting manufacturing capacity for Wegovy, a popular weight loss drug and diabetes treatment.

Catalent Bloomington is changing to 12-hour shifts for its workers, while also planning to reduce 204 temporary positions over the next six weeks.

In documents obtained by WFIU News, Catalent announced to its employees large changes in worker schedules, including a change to 12-hour shifts. This includes built-in, mandatory overtime. The change begins on Aug. 28.

“We did not make this decision lightly; we know it will affect many,” the document said.

The change will affect temporary and full-time employees, both hourly and salaried.

The company document said full-time employees will receive a 10 percent increase in overall income due to the overtime hours.

Workers have through Wednesday to make their shift preferences known. “We will do our best to accommodate your request, while balancing the needs of the business,” the document said.

The company said it expects attrition before the end of August will make the temporary position layoffs lower than the total 204 workers being eliminated.

Catalent Bloomington stated it remains committed to investing millions of dollars in Bloomington and creating new jobs.

“It is part of our core responsibility to employees and customers to continuously improve operating efficiencies and ensure a sustainable and successful future,” the document said.

Catalent said the changes would result in less commuting time and less crowded facilities, since workers will work one three-day week and one four-day week within each two-week pay period.

New shift assignments to be announced July 1.
