Man shot beside Rail Trail in Bloomington

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says a man suffered leg injuries after being shot and allegedly robbed in his tent beside the Bloomington Rail Trail on Sunday.

Deputies responded to reports of a single gunshot and screaming. They found the victim with injuries to both of his thighs. Deputies applied tourniquets and stopped the bleeding.

The victim was then transferred to the IU Health Bloomington Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim says he was robbed by two Black males and possibly one other person. After establishing a perimeter, police were unable to locate any suspects in the area.

Deputies did find a single bullet and shell casing on the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office says detectives believe it is an isolated incident and there’s no danger to the public.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released the victim’s name.
