A company called MCG Health that provides support for IU Health notified some people who receive healthcare from IU Health that data storied in their system had been accessed by an unauthorized party.

The notification sent to these IU Health customers said compromised information might include name, Social Security number, medical codes, addresses, contact information (phone number, email), dates of birth, and gender.

The announcement said the breach occurred March 25. It did not say how many people had information accessed or who accessed it. MCG did not respond to a request for interview in time for the story’s publication.

The announcement to IU Health customers said MCG Health would provide free credit monitoring and identity protection for two years.

MCG Health said in the announcement that a forensic investigation firm has been hired and the FBI has been called.

The company’s website said it advises healthcare providers on structure of patient care and software support.

Experts advise that taking part in digital commerce means your information is more vulnerable, and it is not unusual for big companies to be compromised. It is advised to carefully monitor bank statements, emails, and physical mail to be aware of when information is accessed.
