11-year-old Mt. Vernon boy dies in firework accident

11-year-old Camrynn Ray McMichael of Mt. Vernon, Ind., is dead from a firework accident Sunday night, police said.

The fatal incident occurred on the 900 block of Canal Street. Posey County 911 dispatch were called at 9:42. McMichael died on his way to the Evansville Hospital.

Camrynn’s death is still under investigation by the Indiana State Police, Mt. Vernon Police Department, and Posey County Coroner. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Camrynn was set to attend Mt. Vernon Junior High School in the fall. According to family, he loved playing football and basketball as well as spending time with his younger sister.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, around 11,500 Americans spent time in emergency rooms last year for firework-related injuries, while 9 died.
