Morgan County Clerk dies after automobile accident

Morgan County Clerk Stephanie Elliott is dead following an automobile crash Saturday night. Her husband John Elliott was taken to St. Vincent hospital in critical condition.

According to a press release from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred around 7:15 p.m. on State Road 67.

The Elliotts’ truck crossed into the northbound lane and drove down an embankment into several trees. The reason for the accident remains unknown.

Stephanie Elliott was the Republican candidate for Morgan County Auditor in November’s general election.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and asks anyone with information about the crash to reach out to Deputy Caleb Merriman at (765) 342-5544.
