Sigma Phi Epsilon on cease and desist after rush week

IU’s Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter is on cease and desist since Friday, when the IU Division of Student Affairs suspended “all organized activities” by the fraternity until further notice.

The move came at the end of rush week, when fraternity hopefuls compete for positions in Greek life organizations.

According to IU, cease and desist orders are issued when there are allegations that a student organization has caused harm to the community. It also means that Sigma Phi Epsilon is forbidden from hosting social events, recruiting or participating in events held by others.

The Division of Student Affairs listed “endangering others” and “alcohol” as two reasons for the cease and desist on its website.

There are currently 10 other Greek houses on suspension by IU and 11 on disciplinary status.
