Indiana Democrats stopped in Bloomington Friday morning on their statewide tour for women’s rights.
The “Contract with Women” tour pledges to restore the freedom to choose whether to have an abortion, expand access to birth control and other contraceptives, repeal state tax on hygiene products, and establish a statewide Pre-K system.
“You’re under attack, ladies,” Senate candidate Tom McDermott said. “And I’ll tell you what, when you’re under attack, it’s up to the men in Indiana to help you in this fight right now.”
McDermott said it’s unacceptable for the Supreme Court to undo 50 years of abortion rights, and he condemned leaving abortion laws to individual states.
“If the U.S. Supreme Court is allowed to take rights away from women, do you think they’d think for a second to take rights away from the LGBTQ community?” McDermott said. “They wouldn’t hesitate for a second, and I dare to say that’s next on the list.”
State treasurer candidate Jessica McClellan, state auditor candidate ZeNai Brooks, and secretary of state candidate Destiny Wells also spoke during the Bloomington rally. State Senator Shelli Yoder, 9 th Congressional District candidate Matt Fyfe, and Indiana House District 62 candidate Penny Githens also made appearances.
The “Contract With Woman” tour is the 11th statewide tour by the Indiana Democrats for the 2022 election. To sign the contract, visit the Indiana Democrats website.
