Kerry Thomson is launching her Bloomington mayoral campaign at Switchyard Brewery Thursday. Thomson, a Democrat, announced her intentions to run for mayor in June.
Thomson says she wants to be Bloomington’s mayor because she knows how to build a team and bring the community together.
Thomson is executive director of IU Center for Rural Engagement and was CEO of Monroe County Habitat for Humanity for 20 years. She has never run for public office or served as an elected official.
Thomson is running on a platform of attainable housing, community safety, and executive leadership.
Thomson says the most important thing she wants Bloomington residents to understand is that she wants to hear from them.
City council member Susan Sandberg kicked her campaign off Nov. 13.
Mayor John Hamilton says he will not run for a third term. Sandberg and Thomson would square off in the 2023 Indiana primary May 2.
