A Shelburn, Indiana woman is dead after being hit by a train Sunday evening.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s office says 38-year-old Ashley Lewis crossed the CSX rail crossing west on Mill Street when a northbound train approached the intersection.

Investigators said the train’s lights and horn were working but the train still struck Lewis.

She was flown by Lifeline helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where she later died.

Investigators say they met with CSX authorities, rail police, witnesses, and reviewed video footage. They believe foul play was not involved.
