A veteran officer with the Spencer Police Department was arrested Friday on official misconduct and theft charges for allegedly removing items from secured storage.

Sgt. James Bradley Deckard, who has been with the Spencer PD for 10 years, was booked into the Owen County Jail Friday after an investigation determined he had “utilized his authority to remove illegal narcotics and controlled substances from the DEA Drug Take Back Container stored within the Spencer Police Department,” according to an Indiana State Police press release.

The Owen County prosecutor’s office requested the state police investigate the matter.

Deckard, 39, of Gosport, is facing two Level 6 felony charges. He posted bond Friday.
