"You are missed": Lauren Spierer’s mother posts on her birthday

Lauren Spierer would have been 32 years old on Jan. 17 Her mother, Charlene Spierer, took to social media to say she was filled with “debilitating sadness” on that day.

More than 11 years have passed since Lauren's disappearance. The IU student vanished after a night out with friends in downtown Bloomington on June 3, 2011.

Charlene said in her Facebook post she dreads certain days that "that underscore the loss."

“I cannot fathom what fate took you from us,” she wrote. “I know time is finite. Your time was unjustly so… This day, for me, is overshadowed by those responsible for your absence. They walk hand in hand with you, reminders of how fragile life can be. How, in an incredible instant a life can be taken without conscience or recourse.”

Lauren was last seen leaving a friend’s townhouse near West 11th Street and North College Avenue and walking alone back to her apartment on College, the police said. Investigators executed 10 search warrants and received over 800 tips in recent years. However, Lauren's body has not been found and no one has been arrested in the case.

“Maybe next year will be different. Maybe next year justice will walk hand in hand with you in place of evil,” Charlene wrote.
