Three people died in a Patricksburg house fire early Sunday morning.

At 5:15 a.m., the Volunteer Fire Department was called to 10377 Pichards Street in Patricksburg for a structure fire.

The crew arrived to find the one-story, single-family house fully engulfed in flames. A department press release said the residence was too unstable to enter, so the crew began to put out the fire from the outside. Owen Valley Fire Territory helped with an extra water tank and more personnel.

The dispatch call said three people lived in the house, but responders were not sure if the residents were home when the fire started.

At 5:45, the crews learned three people were inside and contacted the state fire marshal’s office.

One victim was located during efforts to extinguish the fire. The other two victims were recovered after the fire was out. Their identities have not been determined.

No signs of foul play were found, and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Autopsies will be scheduled by the Owen County Coroner’s Office in the coming days.
