The Bloomington Police Station on Third Street is for sale for $3.2 million.

The city plans to move police headquarters to Showers West at the end of 2024.

According to Mayor Hamilton, “The funds from the sale of the current police department will help pay for the full package of the rehabilitation and move and new police station.”

Hamilton also said the new station will give officers more space.

“We will be selling the police station with a later occupancy date, so the police can stay there through the whole process,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton also expects that the old building could become housing or a commercial property, though some zoning restrictions on the property limit what can go there.

Hamilton also said that the zoning restrictions could be lifted if needed.

The city plans to renovate Showers West to house the police.

“The first step will be designing and starting to build and completing the rehabilitation to turn the Showers West into a police station,” said Hamilton.

Hamilton said the plan is to have construction begin before the end of the year and to complete it by next year. Bidding for the construction for Showers West has not begun.

“We’re still in the middle of designing the rehabilitation and the plan is to have the bidding process begin in the fall probably next month,” Hamilton said.
