A woman who is a suspect in the death of five-year-old Cairo Jordan agreed to a plea deal Nov. 2 in Washington County Court.

Dawn Coleman of Shreveport, Louisiana, entered a guilty plea to conspiracy to commit murder, a Level 1 felony. She will be sentenced later this month.

Coleman was arrested in San Francisco in October 2022 in connection to the death of five-year-old Cairo Jordan, who was found in a suitcase in Washington County.

She was charged with aiding, inducing or causing murder, neglect of a child resulting in death, conspiracy to commit murder resulting in death, and obstruction of justice.

Coleman would have to testify against Cairo’s biological mother and suspect, Dejuane Anderson, in the death of Jordan, according to reporting from WTHR.

Anderson is still at large. Police said she has traveled to Houston, Las Vegas, San Diego and San Francisco since police began their investigation.

Authorities allege that Coleman helped Anderson dispose of Cairo’s body in April 2022. Court documents say the boy died in Kentucky and his body was dumped in Indiana. An autopsy estimated that he died within a week of his body being found.

A mushroom hunter discovered the boy’s body inside a suitcase in a heavily wooded area off of a dead-end road.

Coleman’s attorney requested in May that her trial be held somewhere else, arguing that she would not receive a fair trial in Washington County.

Cairo Jordan was buried at a Salem, Indiana, cemetery after a memorial service where a police chaplain called the then-unidentified child an “unknown angel.”

Authorities released the boy’s name in Oct. 2022 after announcing that he had been identified and that Anderson and Coleman were suspects.
