Linton man in custody after shooting at party in Bloomington leaves one dead

A Linton man has been charged with murder following an early Sunday morning shooting at a house party just south of the Indiana University campus.

Bloomington police officers responded to a weapons-related call at around 2 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of S. Park. Ave., according to a BPD press release.

There, bystanders leaving a large house party told officers a man had been shot. Officers searched the area and found a 23-year-old Bloomington man with a gunshot wound to his chest. Life-saving measures on the scene were unsuccessful.

Monroe County Coroner Joani Stalcup confirmed the identity of the man on Monday as Tyriq Bridgwaters.

Police also found a 19-year-old Bloomington man had also been shot. He was hospitalized with what police said was a non-life-threatening injury.

Witnesses told police a man later identified as 21-year-old Isaiah Joseph Deleson Ramos of Linton and two of his companions were denied entry into the party because “one of the individuals had a visible handgun in their waistband.”

The three men got into an altercation that spilled over into a nearby alley. There, witnesses said, “a larger-build white male wearing a pink shirt with facial hair produced a handgun and began firing the weapon into a crowd at the party.”

The description was sent out to all officers, and an Indiana State Trooper “performed a traffic stop on a vehicle shortly thereafter with a passenger that matched the description of the shooter.” That man was identified as Ramos, and a handgun was located in the car, according to the report.

Ramos and his companions were transported to the police department. Following interviews, Ramos was taken to the Monroe County Jail and preliminarily charged with murder and criminal recklessness, both felonies.

Police are still investigating the case and ask anyone with information to contact them at 812-339-4477.

This story has been updated to include the name of the victim.
