Monroe County Solid Waste Management District unveils new name

The slogan for the new Waste Reduction District of Monroe County is "Our World, Our Responsibility."
The slogan for the new Waste Reduction District of Monroe County is "Our World, Our Responsibility."

The Monroe County Solid Waste Management District will be known as the Waste Reduction District of Monroe County beginning January 1, 2024.

The new slogan for the district is, “Our World, Our Responsibility.”

In a press release, Executive Director Tom McGlasson Jr. said the name change “reflects a more focused and responsible approach to promote alternative to final disposal, which is particularly important since Monroe County does not have an operating final disposal facility. All waste generated in Monroe County must be transported to an out of county permitted final disposal facility. Reducing the amount of material transported will have a positive environmental impact by reducing our carbon footprint generated by Monroe County.”

With the rebrand, the district challenges the public to reduce waste, manage it wisely, and make a personal pledge of environmental responsibility in waste reduction.

“We think the waste reduction phrase conveys a stronger focus of what is at stake and the obligation to act will underscore the importance of the district’s mission and the benefit it has to the community,” McGlasson said.

The new name, logo, and website will be launched in January 2024. The new website will be wastereductiondistrict.com.
