Free tax resources available in Bloomington

There are a few different services available for Bloomington residents to file their taxes for free.

The Internal Revenue Services’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program includes sites nationwide with certified tax preparers to assist in filing taxes. VITA has partnered this year with United Way and the Maurer School of Law.

The service helps people who make less than $60,000 a year file 2023 federal and state taxes. According to an IU statement, the service is offered until March 26. People should bring their W-2 forms, other income documents, Social Security card and ID.

In addition, the Monroe County Public Library is providing in-person tax help. IRS-certified AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will be available by appointment to assist residents. AARP volunteers are available for residents regardless of age or income status.

A list of every location in Monroe, Brown and Owen County for tax help services is available on the United Way website.
