Mother receives 30-year sentence for toddler’s death

Cheyenne Hill, 33, has been sentenced Tuesday by a Lawrence County judge to 30 years on a charge of child neglect resulting in death.

Hill was arrested in August 2023 after an investigation into a 1-year-old's death from blunt force trauma to the head.

The toddler, Elliaunna Plummer, was flown to Riley Children’s Hospital on Nov. 23, 2022, and died three days later.

A postmortem exam found the child to be about 10 pounds underweight, with lacerations inside her mouth, a fractured collarbone, and multiple areas of internal scalp bleeding. The doctor concluded the manner of death was homicide with the cause being blunt force head trauma.

When Hill took a polygraph with the police, results indicated that she lied about not injuring her child’s head and not knowing who did.

Radio station WBIW reported Hill’s mother, sister, and friend testified for her at the trial. Elliaunna’s father was also present and spoke against Hill.
