Peter Iversen has won the Democratic nomination for the District 2 seat on the Monroe County Board of Commissioners

Iversen prevailed Tuesday over three-term incumbent and current board president Julie Thomas.

Debates between the two were often contentious, with Iversen accusing Thomas of stalling on projects such as building a new jail and expanding the convention center, to name a few. Thomas has defended her actions.

Iversen has said he wishes to “restore trust in the county board of commissioners.” He has cited housing; tourism; diversity, equity and inclusion; wages; and climate as his priorities.

He is finishing his first four-year term on the Monroe County Council representing Council District 1

Commissioner District 2 includes Bloomington Township, which covers the northern part of Bloomington and beyond. The candidate must live in the district, but all county voters can vote for them.

Iversen does not have an opponent for the Nov. 5 primary.
