Meeting documents show the request was based on information received during a May 2 executive joint session of the Monroe County Council and Board of Commissioners to discuss security needs at the jail.
Each officer will make $25.67 hourly at 41.25 hours a week. This comes out to $55,062.15 annually for a standard calendar year.
The estimated fiscal impact for the rest of 2024 is $46,088 per officer, for a total impact of $184,352. These numbers were calculated using the pay period beginning May 19.
The positions will be paid for through the county’s general fund for this year, but the council might use other funds when it meets later this year to plan the 2025 budget.

The sheriff’s office also is amending the description to incorporate security needs at the jail and will lower the age requirement from 21 to 18 to attract a larger applicant pool.
