A 70-year old man’s body was recovered this morning from Grandview Lake in Bartholomew County by the local fire department. He has been identified as Richard Chaille from Columbus.

According to an Indiana Department of Natural Resources release, state conservation officers began the search Wednesday using boats and side-scan sonar. Responders were notified around 11 a.m. that a man was in the water near his boat, then went under and did not resurface. He was not wearing a lifejacket.

Chaille’s body was located and recovered around 5 a.m. today. The exact cause of death is pending autopsy results.

Convservation officers were assisted by the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Southwest Volunteer Fire Department, Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department, Columbus Township Fire Department and Columbus Regional Health.
