Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies found a high school student dead in a submerged car at a pond Sunday.

Seventeen-year-old Ayana Addisu was a Bloomington High School North student. County Coroner Joani Stalcup said her cause of death is unconfirmed, but it is being investigated as a suicide.

On Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office learned of a partially submerged car in a pond near State Road 45 and I-69.

The deputies arrived with the Monroe County Dive Team, fire department and emergency medical services. Detectives and a crash reconstructionist were also present. They found the car, but Addisu was already dead.

The investigation is ongoing and autopsy results are in progress.
