The Rogers Street intersection with First Street will be closed until Oct. 1. The Bloomington Engineering Department says the closure is part of the city’s First Street reconstruction project. The city plans to install a new water main at the intersection and repair the roadway.
The entire project will enhance First Street between Fairview Street and College Avenue. This project is supported by $4.6 million in federal construction funds.
The Engineering Department will coordinate this closure with the ongoing construction at the intersection of Rogers and University streets for Hopewell East to limit its effect on drivers.
The First Street project includes the following plans:
- Full reconstruction of the roadway
- Replace and upgrade water, storm, and sanitary sewer infrastructure
- Add tree plots that separate the road from the sidewalk
- Traffic-calming enhancements in line with the Neighborhood Greenway
First Street from College Avenue to Fairview Road will remain closed until mid-October, according to the city’s website.
