The section of Indiana Avenue between Kirkwood and Sixth will partially reopen to one lane by Aug. 29. The west lane and sidewalk will reopen. The City of Bloomington Utilities, partnered with Milestone Contractors, estimates construction will be complete in December.
The area is the fifth and final phase in the Clear Creek Culvert Reconstruction Project, or Hidden River Pathway Project. The project is rebuilding the underwater storm drains that run through the downtown area. The project began in 1999.
The fifth section was originally scheduled to reopen before the fall semester began at Indiana University.
City Utilities and Milestone said this section of the project was under a different permit than the other sections. This permit required additional historic documentation, such as reusing the existing limestone. These additional requirements caused the timeline to be pushed back, according to a news release from the city.
