Bloomington’s Cafe Pizzaria, which opened in 1953, closed Wednesday following the owner’s retirement.
The Webb family, which has owned the restaurant since 1986, made the announcement Wednesday on the restaurant’s Facebook page and website.
“Dear Bloomington, We have decided that it is time for us to retire and have more time to focus on family. Thanks to all our loyal customers over the past 70 years! We would especially like to thank all of our employees. You have been exceptional and we love each and every one of you. Larry, Sharon, David, Crosby, Katie, and Andrea”
It is unclear if the restaurant will get new ownership.
Within an hour after the announcement was posted, hundreds of people — from former employees to frequent customers — commented, sharing their memories of the restaurant.
The restaurant was recently voted Bloomington’s best pizza in a Herald-Times poll.
