Smith Road reopening later than scheduled

INDOT says the intersection will be operational by August and the project will be completed in November.
INDOT says the intersection will be operational by August and the project will be completed in November.

The Indiana Department of Transportation now says Smith Road will reopen Sept. 13.

The project at the intersection of Smith Road and State Road 46 was expected to be finished by Aug. 30.

The closure was previously extended for utility relocation, which paused construction early on.

Improvements at the intersection include pedestrian crosswalks, left-turn lanes and expanding a bike lane on North Smith Road.

Work on the intersection began in mid-March, with South Smith Road closed first. The northern part between S.R. 46 and East Morningside Drive was closed later.
