Indiana orchard honors Caitlin Clark in corn maze

A northwest Indiana orchard is celebrating the WNBA Rookie of the Year with a markedly midwestern display — a nearly 5-acre corn maze.

County Line Orchard in Hobart, Indiana, unveiled the agricultural artwork of Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark when it opened for the season Aug. 28.

Dana More, the orchard’s chief operating officer, said she got the idea from her nieces while they watched the WNBA draft.

“It was the first idea really thrown out there, but it's really aligned with who we [the orchard] are,” she said. “And so, I texted our owner right away and he was like, ‘I love it. I'm in.’”

More said this is the most attention they’ve seen with one of their mazes, topping previous years’ designs when the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup or the Chicago Cubs won the World Series.

“This year, we have folks that are specifically coming to see the maze and that's pretty special,” she said.

More said they make the mazes by planting the corn in the shape they want, rather than cutting it down once it has grown.

Caitlin Clark said she hopes to visit the maze now that the WNBA season has wrapped up.

“Pretty cool, I didn’t think it was weird,” she said to an NBC Sports Chicago reporter. “I thought it was great detail. I’m impressed — I don’t know how they do that, you’re not cutting it down from above. Pretty talented, honestly.”

The corn maze will be open until Oct. 31.
