Man sentenced for 2022 rape case

An Illinois man pled guilty without trial to raping an 18-year-old woman in the Morton Street parking garage in 2022, a Level 3 felony.

Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Valeri Haughton sentenced Andre Hardy, 29, of Joliet, to 10 years in the Indiana Department of Correction in Indianapolis.

Hardy was quickly identified and arrested two years ago after police released security footage to the public.

The victim told police a man followed her up the stairs of the Morton Street parking garage while she went to her car when he cornered her and assaulted her.

The two years Hardy served in the prison count toward his sentence time. Three other charges were reduced to misdemeanors.
