Union Health has set up a portable medical tent to accommodate the influx of patients with respiratory illnesses.

To assist with an increase in respiratory illness cases, Union Health hospital in Terre Haute has set up a portable medical tent, hospital officials said in a press release.

The tent is set up outside the hospital’s emergency room. It will hold patients who are awaiting testing or treatment.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting high respiratory illness activity in the United States. In Vigo and surrounding counties, the CDC estimated respiratory illness accounted for around 5 percent of emergency room visits.

We contacted Union Hospital for additional information, but no media representative was available to comment.

Hospital officials advised community members to practice proper hand hygiene and to seek medical care if they are experiencing severe symptoms.
