The Monroe County school board is seeking a new member for District 7.

Brandon Shurr resigned without explanation last week, Superintendent Markay Winston shared in a board meeting Tuesday evening.

“The Monroe County Community School Corporation, school trustees and I extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Brandon Shurr for his dedication and service to the students, families, staff and our community during his nearly six years as a board of school trustee,” Winston said.

Board president April Hennessey said the board received official notice from Clerk of Courts Nicole Browne on March 19. MCCSC must fill the position within 30 days, as required by state law.

Shurr was a vice president and later a president of the board and was with the school board through the 2022 and 2023 referenda, as well as during the development of the 2021-2025 strategic plan, Winston said.

WFIU/WTIU News has reached out to Shurr for comment but did not receive a response before publication.

District 7 includes Bloomington and Perry townships. MCCSC has provided a map of the district boundaries. Eligible community members within this area are encouraged to apply. Additional membership bylaws are available on MCCSC’s document webpage.

Interested community members have until 5 p.m. Thursday to apply.

The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 22.
