Twenty-eight miles of roads throughout Monroe County will soon be repaved.

The Monroe County Commissioners voted 2-0 Thursday to approve the Indiana Department of Transportation's (INDOT) 2025 Community Crossing Grant agreement with the county. INDOT will give the county $1.5 million to complete the pavement project. The county will match the $1.5 million.

Commissioners Julie Thomas and Jody Madeira approved the grant agreement. Commissioner Lee Jones was absent.

“Our county council has budgeted for that, for 2025, so we thoroughly appreciate the assistance in being able to do this program,” said Lisa Ridge, director of the Monroe County Highway Department.

Bids for the pavement project opened Thursday afternoon.
