The Bartholomew County Water Rescue Team recovered the body of a man reported missing during the recent flooding.

The coroner’s office identified the man as 62-year-old Darrel Voelz.

According to a statement from the county sheriff, the water rescue team received a call Sunday to locate the man along the Driftwood River. The team was unable to find the man after two searches that day.

The team went out again Wednesday after flood waters receded. That’s when they found the man’s cabin, described in the sheriff’s statement as a “primitive riverside dwelling.”

The water team found the cabin covered with flood water and caught on fire during the flood.

The man’s body was found near a downstream fishing site.

There has been at least one other death reported from the weekend flooding.
