Bloomington-based nonprofit utility B&B Water Project is requesting a 28.5 percent increase in service rates. The state Office of Utility Consumer Counselor has opened a comment period for consumers.
B&B is requesting the rate increase due to higher operating and maintenance costs, long-term financing, and the need for infrastructure repairs and replacements.
A customer using 4,000 gallons of water a month currently pays about $47. Under the requested change, that would increase to about $61. The current rates were approved in Oct. 2023.
B&B serves about 1,800 residential homes in Monroe County.
Customers can send comments on the proposed change to the state Office of Utility Consumer Counselor through Aug. 4. Comments can be sent by email to uccinfo@oucc.in.gov or by mail. More contact information is available on the office’s website.
Updates on the request can be found here.
