The American Pirates offer a genre-defying interpretation of the American Songbook, reimagining pre–World War II jazz standards with an eye for historical authenticity and frequent use of banjo. Their repertoire weaves together jazz standards, gospel music, original compositions, and tributes ranging from the Carter Family to Bob Dylan and Radiohead. On tour, they are joined by award-winning New York City–based pianist Albert Newberry, whose jazz-influenced style ranges from classical romanticism to gospel stride.
