Additional traffic and safety measures will soon be implemented throughout the county.

The Monroe County Commissioners unanimously approved a request from the Highway Department Thursday to add stop signs to Clear View Drive and Hedgewood Drive for Estate Drive; a traffic signal at the intersection of Curry Pike and Constitution Avenue and ban on semitrucks on Eller Road from State Road 45 to Garrison Chapel Road.

The commissioners also approved a change order from the Indiana Department of Transportation, which will add barriers on the Karst Trail Extension to separate motorists and pedestrians.

“There was no additional cost to the county because there are funds left on the construction contract,” said Lisa Ridge, director of the Highway Department.

According to the change order, a total of 112 traffic drums will be placed along the trail extension in 24-foot intervals, with reflective lights on both sides. The installation of the barriers will use $16,262 of existing project funds.

The current project construction contract totals $3,075,586.
