With an eye to expansion, Simtra BioPharma Solutions bought the Cook Group’s 65-acre property at 301 N. Curry Pike.
The 300,000-square-foot property is near Simtra’s existing medicine development facility north of 3rd Street and west of Bloomington.
The company specializes in manufacturing injectable medicines. It’s exploring the possibility of new manufacturing lines at the site.
“This facility will allow us to step into more specialized therapies, more targeted, particularly in the oncology field, so cancer products,” said Patrick Adams, plant manager in Bloomington.
Adams said it’s too early to know how many jobs will be created, but he expects an increase
The property used to be a General Electric manufacturing facility.
Cook Group said no jobs will be impacted by the purchase.
“This in no way signals a change to our presence or commitment to the community,” Pete Yonkman, president of Cook Group and Cook Medical, said in a press release. “This transfer will be good for the community, the local economy and the life sciences industry here in Bloomington. We are happy to see it go to a company that is also focused on innovation in healthcare.”
Simtra is still developing the $250 million expansion of its main campus located at 927 South Curry Pike.
