Indiana Education Officials Release ILEARN Results – Showing Predicted Drop in Scores

Noon Edition airs on Fridays at noon on WFIU.

This month, the state released ILEARN testing results at the Indiana State Board of Education Meeting.

The results confirmed the drop in scores predicted by officials, who have advised against comparing the data to previous years.

Results show fewer than 29 percent of the state’s third through eighth graders passed both the English/language arts and math portions of the test.

Indiana education officials say the data is just one part of examining COVID-19’s effect on student learning.

The scores also highlighted how the pandemic has disproportionately had a negative impact on students of color and students from low-income families.

Many districts are looking to respond by creating additional learning opportunities like summer schooling and tutoring programs.

This week, we’ll talk with education reporters, school officials, and educators about ILEARN results and what to expect in the coming year.
