About Earth Eats

Earth Eats is a show about food and farming. It’s storytelling, recipes, farm visits, and kitchen sessions. We have conversations with scholars, chefs, growers, and food justice activists. We hear from authors, artists, scientists, poets, and people who love to eat.

Earth Eats brings you updates from our partners at Harvest Public Media, a reporting collective covering agriculture and rural life in the Midwest and Great Plains.

From sustainable growing practices to workers' rights in meatpacking plants, from community orchards to fair trade chocolate factories, Earth Eats explores food access, inequities, connections, and critiques. We revel in textures, aromas and flavors, while challenging harmful food systems. We share baking tips, gardening secrets, serious issues, and comfort food.

The program is available as a weekly podcast, and all episodes are archived for online listening. Watch our recipe videos on our YouTube channel, and subscribe! We also keep tabs on the latest food headlines on Twitter, and be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Kayte Young is the host and producer of Earth Eats. She discovered her passion for growing, cooking, foraging and preserving fresh food when she moved to Bloomington in 2007. With a background in construction, architecture, nutrition education and writing, she brings curiosity and a love of storytelling to a show about all things edible. Kayte raises bees, a small family and a yard full of food in Bloomington’s McDoel Gardens neighborhood.

The Earth Eats team includes Violet Baron, Eoban Binder, Alexis Carvajal, Alex Chambers, Mark Chilla, Toby Foster, Daniella Richardson, Samantha Schemenauer, Payton Whaley and the reporters at Harvest Public Media.

Earth Eats airs each Saturday at 7:00 am and Sunday at 1:00 pm on WFIU (103.7 FM in south-central Indiana). The podcast is available each Friday evening on our website, and on platforms like Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, and Spotify.
