Nebraska firm Tyson Fresh Meats Inc. recalled 40,000 pounds of ground beef on Friday after a test for E. coli showed positive.
10-pound chubs of Chuck Fine Ground Beef 80/20 were shipped to 16 states, including Alabama, California, Indiana and Ohio, has a best by date of 11/13/11, and is stamped with EST. 245C on the box.
The E. coli was found through routine testing, and no illnesses have been reported with the recall.
E. coli can cause diarrhea, stomach cramps and dehydration. The USDA says thoroughly cooking raw meat to an internal temperature of 160° F is the best way to avoid contamination.
