Bach: Goldberg Variations

Uri Caine has been rewriting classical music for almost ten years. His interpretations of Mahler, Wagner, Schumann and Beethoven are all critically acclaimed. This set of Goldberg Variations was choreographed for a performance of the Pennsylvania Ballet. Besides Bach's original thirty variations, Caine adds forty-five of his own creation, borrowing from bossa nova, jazz, klezmer, techno, and just about any other style of music you can imagine. Because of the intriguing variety, this new set of Goldberg Variations is probably not the best music for those with insomnia. Bach's original composition is said to have been composed for precisely that reason—to cure the insomnia of his patron Count Keyserlink.
